In folklore and pop culture, the Mothman is a creature reportedly seen in the Point Pleasant area from November 15, 1966, to December 15, 1967. Newspaper reports at the time described the mysterious flying monster as a “Man-Sized Bird”. The Mothman was later popularized by John Keel in his 1975 book, “The Mothman Prophecies”, where he claimed it to be a harbinger of doom, with supernatural events related to the sightings. He even claimed a connection to the collapse of the Silver Bridge.
